Lochinver Mission '10
Due to the decline in fishing in the 'fishing village' of Lochinver, the community decided to take over the Lochinver Mission building in an attempt to keep on providing the services that it once did. Here's the result of my logo designs for the refurbished and refreshed business.
The original brief was to use the results of a primary school children's competition and incorporate them into a logo design. However the idea became too complex, funnily enough, due to too many ideas in the one logo. So we decided to use the kids' designs maybe at a later date on the interior of the building and go with the prominent outline of the Mission building itself as the design. The last of the top three designs incorporated a carving of a sailing boat which is found on an old peat road. This was the prefered design before the rebrief.
Sutherland Gemcutters & Assynt Adventures '10
The Sutherland Gemcutters is full of sparkly trinkets and rocks, minerals etc. and Assynt Adventures is for all the folk who live in or visit the area that like to do a bit of mountain climbing. It has new proprietors and so it was felt the slightly aged looking outdoor signs needed a change too. Here are the designs.
I'll be giving the owners a hand putting them up and will post photos of how they look in real life.
MacCaig Centenary '10
In November 2010 there was a week long celebration for the 100th anniversary of poet Norman MacCaig's birth. There was a exhibition of local art (in which I had a collection of photos in response to some of MacCaig's poems), guided walks and talks and a ceilidh at the end. My job was to produce the leaflets, flyers tickets etc. Here they are.
The leaflet above contains a map detailing the assumed location of various MacCaig poems. Twelve of the poems I cycled and/or walked to where the poems are thought to be about. Even though some are impossible to determine, it was a great excuse to see some places around where I grew up but had never actually been. Also above is a flyer detailing the events of the week.
